CRA Newsletter - 4th Quarter 2025

Member, Newsletters,

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hey Everyone,

As we head into Thanksgiving week, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each of you for your commitment to excellence, education, and advocacy in Colorado’s roofing industry. This year has brought its share of challenges and accomplishments, and together we’ve shown what it truly means to lead with integrity and professionalism.

With the holiday season upon us, we’re also closing in on the end of 2025—and for me, my final month as your CRA President. Before I share a few parting thoughts, I’d like to recap the past couple of months and highlight a few reminders for our December events and activities.

It feels like once July wrapped up and we returned to West Woods Golf Course in August, the activity hasn’t slowed down. CRA continues to thrive and grow, and it’s been energizing to see our association so active and engaged.

Events & Community

Even with fewer teams this year, our 43rd annual golf tournament was a tremendous success. Players loved the course and enjoyed a beautiful day out, all while helping us raise funds for both our Training Center and the Rob McReynolds Raise the Roof Fund. We enjoyed it so much that we’re heading back again in 2026!

October also brought us back to Kiowa Creek Sporting Club for our 12th annual sporting clay tournament—a fun day filled with orange targets, new challenges, and plenty of friendly competition. Proceeds supported our advertising committee, consumer outreach initiatives, and once again, the Raise the Roof Fund. Be sure to check out the links in the newsletter for photos from both events.

These fall events were the perfect bookend to our signature gatherings earlier in the year—our January Trade Show and February Awards Dinner—both of which set new attendance records. Throughout 2025, we’ve also hosted workshops and networking meetups that have brought members together to learn, share, and strengthen our community.

Speaking of community, CRA members helped roof more than 20 Habitat for Humanity homes this year and completed another flagship project for the MaxFund Animal Shelter in Denver. Thank you to all who donated time, labor, and materials—your impact is felt far beyond our industry.

And coming up next, don’t miss the YEP Holiday Bash on December 5th!
This year, they’ve switched things up by trading the traditional casino night theme for a hilarious and festive “Jingle Bells & Jorts — Classy Trashy Christmas” celebration. It’s sure to be a fun, lighthearted gathering and a great chance to connect with fellow industry professionals before the holidays.

Education & Training

Education has remained at the heart of what we do. Our roofing Training Center saw record participation this year. From brand-new installers to seasoned project managers, CRA members continue to invest in their teams and workforce development.

A major milestone in 2025 was the completion of the Training Center remodel and expansion. The updated facility now offers additional classroom space, upgraded equipment, and new hands-on training areas to better support both entry-level and advanced roofing professionals. This investment reflects CRA’s long-term commitment to building a strong, skilled workforce for Colorado.

Plus, in October we successfully launched our new 2-day Tile Roof Training class. Thank you to Gary Manlove and Rich Boon for spearheading this exciting addition to our training curriculum. And thank you to the students, assistants, and everyone who supported us in getting this new class off the ground.

While our classes have been using the new larger mock-ups since September, we also hosted our first event in the new seminar space just last week—a membership lunch featuring an industry update from Heidi Ellsworth of RoofersCoffeeShop. With more than 60 members in attendance, it was a packed and energized room. We’re excited to use the space again for our upcoming seminar with Mark Graham on December 11th for his annual roofing technical update, and we welcome conversations with members interested in renting the space for their own trainings.

We also want to highlight our December 17th Webinar with Trent Cotney, who will lead a virtual discussion on owner-purchased materials, what this trend means for contractors, and the legal risks that should be on your radar heading into 2026. This will be a valuable session for business owners, project managers, and anyone navigating the changing contract and supply landscapes.

Advocacy & Legislative Updates

CRA continues to protect key legislative wins like the 5% retainage cap, which remains crucial for contractor cash flow statewide. Our Government Relations team has also been hard at work this year helping to block harmful legislation that would have placed unnecessary burdens on contractors.

Here are a few of the major developments from 2025:

  • HB 25-1130 – Strengthened labor requirements for publicly funded construction projects. If you bid public work, make sure your compliance processes are up to date.

  • SB 25-185 – Expanded homeowner rights in negligence cases, reinforcing the duty of care owed by contractors and subcontractors. Strong documentation and insurance coverage are more important than ever.

  • HB 25-1261 – A significant construction defect expansion bill that was defeated thanks to broad industry advocacy—protecting builders and contractors from increased litigation risk.

Looking ahead to 2026, our committee is preparing for an active legislative session, closely monitoring bills related to payment terms, workforce development, and environmental code updates. Stay tuned—your engagement truly makes a difference at the Capitol.

Industry Trends & Labor Outlook

The roofing industry continues to evolve. We’re seeing stabilization in material pricing, rapid increases in technology adoption, and ongoing workforce shortages across the construction sector. Recruiting young professionals into the trades remains a top priority. Contractors are stepping up with creative solutions—from on-the-job training programs to new apprenticeship pathways—and CRA will continue supporting these efforts through education, partnerships, and advocacy.

Trade Show

Our annual Trade Show is just around the corner—taking place right after IRE on January 29th. Right now, the focus is on getting our vendors signed up, and attendees can look for their invitation to register in mid-December.

This year’s Trade Show Committee has been working hard to expand the event and bring in an even wider variety of vendors. We’re also thrilled to share that they have secured John Senac, a major social media influencer best known for Name That Shingle (NTS). Having such an influential voice in the roofing community join us is a huge win, and we’re excited for the energy and expertise he’ll bring to the show.

Awards Dinner – Call for Job of the Year Entries - Dec 10 Deadline

It’s that time of year when we invite all of you to submit your Job of the Year entries. With a quieter week ahead for many, this is a perfect opportunity to sit down and begin preparing your submission. Our team is already hard at work on our entry, and I encourage each of you to do the same.

We’re especially excited as we gear up to celebrate the 25th Annual Awards Dinner, and we want this milestone year to be our best yet. Submissions are completed entirely online, and the platform is user-friendly, organized, and makes it easy to upload all required materials.

Please consider submitting your standout projects—this is your chance to showcase your team’s craftsmanship and excellence. The deadline to submit is December 10th.

Board Elections

We also recently concluded our Board election, and I want to extend a heartfelt congratulations to all of our newly elected and returning Board members. Thank you for stepping up to serve and for your commitment to guiding CRA into another successful year. Your leadership, time, and passion make a meaningful impact on our association and the broader roofing community. I’m confident the board is in great hands for 2026 and beyond.

Closing Thoughts

Being your CRA President these past three years has meant more to me than I can express. Getting to know our members and helping lead this amazing association has been both inspiring and energizing. I was lucky to have a fantastic team behind me, and together we navigated challenges and celebrated big wins. As I close out my term and we finish another strong year, I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve and excited to see where CRA goes next.

The strength of CRA comes from its members—contractors, suppliers, and industry partners who bring craftsmanship, integrity, and pride to everything they do. Let’s carry this momentum into 2026 and continue raising the bar for our industry.

Thank you.  It's been my honor to serve you.  Wishing you and your families a joyful holiday season and a successful year ahead.

With gratitude,

Guy Mumford

Thank You to Our Outgoing Board Members

We want to extend our deepest appreciation to several dedicated leaders whose terms on the CRA Board have come to a close. Their commitment, insight, and passion have strengthened our association in lasting ways.

Steve Miller - Bighorn Rain Gutter (Joined 2020)

Representing the metal side of our industry, Steve has chaired the Golf Committee since 2020. He helped guide the transition to Riverdale Golf Courses, allowing us to increase participation by 72 players and grow our hole sponsorships—at a time when outdoor events were the only gatherings we could safely host. His steady leadership helped expand one of CRA’s premier events. We’re grateful that Steve will continue serving on the Golf Committee.

Vance Roth - Cleasby Manufacturing (Joined 2020)

As a manufacturer representative and co-chair of the CRA Trade Show, Vance played a crucial role in relocating the event from the former Denver Mart to our new home at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds. His efforts helped the Trade Show grow and hit record attendance. Along the way, we also discovered one of Vance’s hidden talents—his sharp financial instincts and strong investment and market knowledge, which added valuable depth to board discussions and strategic planning. Vance will remain involved with the Trade Show Committee, and we’re thankful for his continued contributions.

Scott Patz – Rocky Mountain Reps (Joined 2020)

Scott has long served on our Building Code & Standards Committee and brought that same insight and thoughtfulness to the Board. As committee chair, he led the development of our residential and commercial best practice documents, along with several helpful technical bulletins. As a manufacturers representative, Scott was able to lend valuable advice informed by multiple product lines and diverse manufacturers’ perspectives. He was also a key voice during our efforts surrounding the Green Building Ordinance and many other important industry issues.

Over the past two years, Scott has taken on the role of CRA Vice President, stepping in wherever needed and contributing meaningfully to board discussions, decisions, and strategic planning. His steady leadership and technical expertise have been invaluable to CRA.

Past President Suzie Boyd – Academy Roofing (Joined Board 2019)

Suzie has been part of the Awards Committee since its inception and an active member of the Safety Committee long before joining the Board. After stepping onto the Board in 2019, she chaired the Awards Committee, volunteered on the Membership Committee, and served as CRA President in 2021 and 2022—leading us through the uncertainties of the post-pandemic recovery.

In 2018, Suzie was honored as CRA’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, a recognition that reflects her decades of service, leadership, and impact on our industry. She has also been a strong and inspiring voice for women in roofing, helping ensure they are represented, supported, and celebrated within CRA.

Suzie’s communication skills, thoughtful leadership, and steady presence have been invaluable. She played a key role in modernizing backend systems and improving organizational processes during her presidency. While she is stepping off the Board, she will continue to serve on both the Awards and Membership Committees.

A heartfelt thank you to Steve, Vance, Suzie, and Scott for their years of service, leadership, and commitment to representing the needs of our members. CRA is stronger because of each of you.

    Golf Tournament Photo Gallery

We’re a little late getting these out, but we were excited to be back at West Woods Golf Club in Arvada for the 43rd Annual CRA Golf Tournament! Players navigated the beautiful 27-hole layout, allowing for 216 golfers and more than 20 volunteers and sponsors out on the course supporting the event. This year’s tournament benefitted both the Rob McReynolds Raise the Roof Fund and the CRA Training & Education Program—helping advance workforce development and roofing education in Colorado. Thanks to the incredible support of our sponsors, players, and volunteers, we raised $15,000 for the CRA Training Center and $7,530 for the Rob McReynolds Raise the Roof Fund. This event wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and generosity of everyone involved. We are truly grateful for your continued support and look forward to even more successful events with our members in the future.

We had over 170 shooters, 20 volunteers, colorful clays (pink and orange!), and some new contest challenges to keep things lively. It was a perfect Colorado fall day and together we raised $5,000 for the Rob McReynolds Raise the Roof Fund, along with support for CRA’s consumer education efforts. CRA TRAINING CENTER

The CRA Training Center, located at 1660 Jasper Street, Units I & J in Aurora, CO, is purpose-built for roofers and hands-on roofing applications. Designed with flexibility in mind, the space accommodates training on all types of steep and low-slope roofing materials and systems—we’re proud to say it’s 100% application friendly.

CRA Training Center Expansion is Complete!

More Space, More Training, More Opportunity

The CRA Training Center expansion is officially complete—and the transformation is incredible. With a brand-new, larger classroom and a full-size mock-up training bay, we now have the space and resources to elevate Colorado’s roofing workforce like never before.

We held our first lunch-and-learn in the new space, and it was an overwhelming success. Members filled the classroom, the energy was high, and the feedback was exactly what we hoped for: modern, professional, and built for learning.

This is more than just a remodel. It’s an investment in the future of our industry.

More space. More classes. More opportunity to level up Colorado’s roofing workforce.

From hands-on skills training to technical seminars and industry certifications, the upgraded facility opens the door for expanded programming and new learning experiences. We’re proud to continue building a stronger, safer, more skilled roofing community for years to come.

A heartfelt thank-you to our Education/Training Committee and to Curt Boyd of Academy Roofing, who took the reins as our construction manager. With the incredible teamwork of his crew and our CRA volunteers, we were blessed with the support and energy to make this expansion a reality!

👉 The future is bright—we can't wait for you to see it!

    COMMUNITY SERVICE

    CRA Project Spotlight:

Colorado Springs Habitat Home Gets a Roof Thanks to Blue Frog Roofing

Our sincere thanks to Rampart Roofing, Inc., one of our dedicated member companies, for donating their time, labor, and expertise to install a brand-new GAF roof on a Habitat for Humanity of Colorado home. These homes are built alongside the recipient families, making each completed project a true community effort.

CRA launched the Roof Over Your Head program to help provide safe, high-quality roofs for Colorado families in need. Over the past 10 years, this partnership has contributed an estimated $950,000 in donated materials and services. That impact would not be possible without the generosity and commitment of our members.

Together, we’re building more than roofs. We’re building stronger communities across Colorado.

    COLORADO LEGISLATIVE WATCH

    Legislative & Advocacy Update

The start of the 2026 legislative session is just around the corner, and your CRA Government Relations Committee is already hard at work preparing. In October, we hosted a Capitol Tour to help members familiarize themselves with the building, committee rooms, and legislative chambers. A few attendees even had the chance to step out onto the dome—an unforgettable experience and view! (See pictured: Jamie Williams and Chad Leisey.)

Early conversations at the Capitol are already taking shape, and we’re monitoring several topics that could directly impact roofing contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and the broader construction industry.

As mentioned in Guy’s column, we expect to see the return of several bills from last year—some positive, some concerning. We will be tracking each closely, engaging with lawmakers, and representing your interests throughout the session. Our goal remains the same: support the good, fix what can be improved, and push back on anything that puts unfair burdens on our industry.

What We’re Watching Going Into 2026

While specifics won’t be finalized until bills are officially introduced, conversations throughout the interim point to several areas of activity:

    • Construction Defects: Continued efforts from multiple sides to revisit liability, timelines, and homeowner protections.

    • Labor Requirements: Possible expansion of reporting, wage, or workforce rules on public and private projects.

    • Environmental & Energy Codes: More updates tied to energy efficiency, material requirements, and green building practices.

    • Payment Reform: Ongoing discussions around retainage, prompt pay, and contract fairness—issues we’ll continue to champion.

As always, CRA’s focus is to ensure any proposed legislation works for contractors—specifically roofing contractors—in the real world, not just on paper.

    🎟️ 50/50 Legislative Raffle – Thank You & Congratulations!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 50/50 Legislative Raffle! The raffle was open to all roofing contractors, subcontractors, GCs, suppliers, and industry allies, and we truly appreciate the strong support from across the industry. Your ticket purchases directly fuel our advocacy efforts—supporting better laws, stronger protections, and a brighter future for Colorado’s construction professionals.

The ticket deadline closed on October 24, 2025, and the winner was selected on October 25th.

🎉 Congratulations to Kenneth Boyd of Academy Roofing!

Kenneth may have only recently returned full time to the roofing industry, but he grew up in a roofing family and brings deep roots and understanding of the trade. He’s also no stranger to the legislative process—his experience as a former DA gives him a strong grasp of policy, advocacy, and navigating issues at the Capitol. We’re grateful to have him serving on CRA’s Government Relations Committee and thrilled to see the raffle prize land with someone so engaged and committed to our industry.

While the pot didn’t quite reach our goal this year, the final total of $3,834 was still a pretty darn great prize to walk away with! 😊

We plan to bring the raffle back again next year—and with increased awareness and participation, we know the pot will grow even bigger. Keep an eye on your inbox, spread the word, and get ready to jump in again!

If you are aware of any specific legislation coming up in the new year that will affect our industry, please contact me so that we can follow it and share updates with the membership. With your help, we can continue to work together for positive change in the roofing industry.
